Rick and Morty: Is it weird to be sexually attracted to planets?
In season four of Rick and Morty, we learn that Rick got a planet pregnant, which makes sense for a guy who thinks of himself as a God. But is this desire to be a deity holding Rick back from having friends? We’ll explain in this Wisecrack Edition on Why Rick “Loves” Planets.

  • Rick fucks planets for a very different reason than, say, Drinkey Crow. When Drinkey did it it was funny because the joke made sense in relation to the inherent madness of the show. Rick being a geophiliac is a case of Simpsonization. It's basically Rick fucking the panda. Rick and Morty is no longer a twisted version of Back to the Future in the same way the Simpsons are no longer a portrayal of the typical American family. There is a scene in Final Space where the characters decide to engage in what I can only call a random piss orgy. This is where I stopped watching. I did not even finish the episode. If you can watch a show after it literally pisses in it's own face with a big toothy grin than you will watch anything they tell you to. Venture Bros, Rick & Morty, Archer, Squidbillies. These shows forgot that they were parody the moment the creators realized that people will watch no matter what happens or does not happen. They may as well play "Ass" from ideocracy with and Adult Swim tag. The formulae for this mental gruel you slurp is nostalgia, randomness, and a spoonful of propaganda to help the medicine go down.

  • I, on a personal note, think the loneliness is worth it. Sure, having a friend or two around to impress is well and all. But in the end, most people hold other people back... At least in my experience that in all relationships I put everything aside for them and have next to no time for myself.

    Riku MasamuneRiku Masamune4 days ago
    • Sorry to read, people can hold each other back, that is true but good friends can elevate you to unimaginable heights. You highlighted your problem at the end... Try not to let yourself get absorbed by the relationships you're in and make sure you take care of yourself too. It's hard I know, but we'll worth it.

  • How is it you guys do a video on Rick and Morty, specifically Rick's friendships, and not even mention once the truest friendship rick ever had, one that was created over a lifetime of bonding and experiences, and ripped apart through the cruelty of the universe. The friendship of Rick Sanchez and bird person, currently known now as Phoenix person.

  • Obviously the solution is for Rick to work on himself. Oh, he's a toxic person? Instead of treating his toxins like something he has to either purge or embrace, he ought to build upon the scientific principles of the detoxifier technology so that he can selectively regulate his own character flaws. Oh, he doesn't respect therapy? Then build. A better. Therapist. Rick may have put all his points into INT instead of WIS, but that's no excuse for him not making a machine or a ray or a serum that can buff his WIS score after the fact. Smartest man in the universe, but the man has no creativity sometimes.

  • Thank you for making the time to create this video, your analysis with regards to Aristotle were very enlightening, I myself not familiar with his discussion of friendship. Ultimately you are right to question whether his loneliness as a price of near infinite power outweighs his limitation to form bonds. When I consider "Duffus Rick", I remember he is more than able to chemically create chocolate brownies. But this tiny invention brings joy to Jerry, and possibly restores his faith in some small aspect of total Rick nature. If Rick C-137 has the ability to shape civilisations, as is seen by his destruction of entire planets simply to convince Morty that heist movies are a bad idea, is that the most effective use of his power? Would I rather live in a world with "Duffus Rick" or Rick C-137? I think my life span would be significantly longer in "Duffus Ricks" World. Would I rather live in a universe with "Duffus Rick" or Rick C-137? Rick C-137 would most likely offer more protection in a universe of alien entities and extreme physical occurences. However, only if I was from the planet Earth. Either way, indicates I would be better off in a world of "Duffus Rick", but we must remember, I think if you agree, that this show is from the perspective of Rick C-137, hence we have more empathy towards his condition anyway. Thanks for the gift of this thought experiment, I've never seen any of your videos before but I smashed that like button!

  • He has consequences. You’ve enumerated many of the,m. I think Rick will continue to de compensate and drink himself into oblivion. Conflict is necessary for any thing to be “entertainment,” and Ricks inner conflict is the most profound. This cartoon dives in to what I call deep doo doo or karmic quicksand. The fact that there is a citadel and so many Ricks is a consequence of time travel and intergalactic misadventures that Rick compulsively embarks upon to avoid his emptiness. You didn’t seem to notice that Morty is having a reciprocal and round relationship with his grandchildren, particularly Morty who is more uncertain and ordinary than his sister. Summer is a bad ass and perhaps ready to eclipse Ricks genius eventually. She seemed to need her baby brother this season in many of the ways Rick does, but she’s no where nearly as estranged from the world as the old man. Rick is forever dragging Morty out of school and renegotiating the terms of their relationship because Morty demands things like sexually adept robots, dragons and sleep. You’ve done an impressive job of alluding to the way their bond has evolved, and I seriously think one reason Rick retreats from the world and his family is because he understands he’s decisive, a bad influence, and threat to their safety in every sense. What was the catalyst for the disordered mad scientist’s unraveling psyche? They’ve are. He loves them too much to keep them caught up in his drama. He doesn’t want to debit his grandson simple joys like Jessica and growing up. Remember that Morty is also isolated. He’s probably even more outside than Rick when you think about it, at least early in the series. What happens along the is numinous because the little dude sticks I’m for himself and for others alomg the way. You mentioned morality ... no you did better than that. You deferred to ethics. Time and time again we watch Morty ask the most important questions and in doing so he forces Rick to recognize that his behavior betrays him and his ideas. Part of our relationship with there characters is how we turn these squirmishes over in our own minds. Are we like Summer and her mother? Shrugging it off as a consequence of existence between beasts and gods? Is it, as Marty’s dimwit daddy vaguely sees it? . Our of our hands because free Will is no Matt here for fate? Maybe all these perceptions and millions more cared are all valid.and conspire to find the truth with post modern tropes ? Who knows? I think we could make a great thesis claiming Morty is galvanizing Rick’s humanity and eacjbof them becoming the other’s salvation, which is clearly intentionally in every way when you deconstruct the show, which means inherently analyzing the characters and how they relate to each other. It’s obvious Rick roots for Morty and visa versa. They just can’t afford to get sloppy or sentimental about that in a world as unpredictable as ours, especially with creatives and androids, planets and gods demanding so much from them. They’ve all empowered each other, the Smith Sanchez clan is evolving psychologically and spiritually. And thus, dear thinking thug, is what matters most for us, cartoons and everyone else in the mix. .

  • Glaring fault in Aristotle's friendship definition. He says true friendships last, but must be between equals. If one rises, or another falls, they'll no longer be equals, and their friendship will come to an end. Thus, even "true" friendships are temporary

      Mads AndreasenMads Andreasen22 days ago
    • People will be equals but that balance is determined by more variables than age, IQ, social economics , sex appeal, and so on. I’m not sure Aristotle believed anyone was his equal. Socrates and Plato are certainly closer to that reality. And their duty to ethics . This makes sense. Just as Morty, Summer and Beth fall under Rick’s insidious influence and more importantly, back out of it and into a mutual orbit where equality can become realized for a small amount of by hapless Jerry and the Jerry and Dufas Rick when they enjoy a true friendship.j

  • Solid analysis :) Although, I do think that Rick's relationship to his specific iteration of Morty is more than simply utility. Morty's growing assertiveness has clearly been annoying the shit out of Rick in the past couple of seasons. If their relationship was PURELY a "friendship of utility," he could easily swipe another Morty from the Citadel or another non-affiliated reality. But he sticks with the one who's been pissing him off. Clearly there's at least a little more there than pure utility.

  • Rick Sanchez is a plagiarization and total rip off of the tried and true Bender Rodriguez: the alcoholism; burping; the way he treats Fry vs Morty; big girls (ships vs planets) ; no regard for human life (infinite copies vs meat bag); stealing; replacing severed arms; suicidal tendencies; and I am sure even more. While this discovery was a bit sad as I love R&M and I felt played, dont 'f' with Futurama! "The most holy band of society is friendship. It has been well said, by a shrewd satirist, "that rare as true love is, true friendship is still rarer." • You say repeatedly that he’s not a god because of his human inclinations, but a ton of gods, especially the greek gods, have very human inclinations. Most Greek myths start with gods living out lust, jealousy, anger, etc, towards humans. Rick checks off all the primary marks of being a god, and is likely the closest thing to a legit god within the show. That being said, while he claims his friendship with Morty is utility, the show repeatedly exhibits parts that prove both that claim and that utility are lies. Plus you completely skipped Birdperson/Phoenixperson. I think a big part of why Rick has no friends and why he struggles to make new ones, is because they’re all dead. It’s a combination of ptsd and survivors guilt. Everyone he saw as his equals are dead, and he watched most of them die.

That's why he's such a beloved character despite his overt flaws and disregard. He's basically the representation of mankind.
