This Cole character could also be Quan Chi shapeshifting into Cole. Meanwhile, the real Cole is already dead. Quan Chi uses the disguise to get into the tournament to kill someone else. I don't think Cole is Scorpion, they just cut the trailer in a weird way to make you think that. Trailers are always misleading.

First I thought Cole was Kuai-Liang, but after this trailer and the clues they give us (Cole is actually the dude with weird metal torso fighting Goro) I think Cole is a free version of Takeda, he even got two tonfa at the end when they spoiler Mileena. This Takeda is going to be related some how to Scorpion. Also, Johnny Cage is just in a small role in the movie and probably potrayed by Scott Adkins.

Kano wears metal armour on his arms in other depictions but at the end his hand is purely covered in blood and guts. The metal hand you see through the whole trailer is Jax. Thereโs a theory that Cole is sub zero which makes the fight at the end something even more special given his scorpion flashbacks. It just looks immense.
Cole was the 3rd person present in the fight with Scorp & Sub. I believe, at some point during the film or at the end of it, Cole will be revealed to be Johnny Cage. Cole is a cage fighter and so I think he will choose Johnny Cage as his stage name in the action movies he plays in. I also believe the absence of Kitana is because she is dead (killed by Mileena or someone in the tourney). I think it would be a great story line if her death is what moves Mileena to fight in the tourney (either in her place or to get revenge for her death).
