Her and Where the Wild Things are made me rethink all of Spike Jonez's earlier work.
Monty Python: Deep or Dumb next?
I only came here to say this jackass would never and I mean fucking never ever have been jack shit if it wasn't for CKY! Johnny Knoxville will always live in bams & crews shadows don't any of you ever forget this fact.
I will risk coronavirus to see Jackass 4 in a movie theater.
The Dudesons: “ am I a joke to you?”
Its Deep. Jackass is about have a fun time acting dumb and laughing with your friends and pulling pranks. Everyone is a manchild in their own way. Dave England is in his 50s and still skateboard/snowbards shares his antics with his kids. You can cherish those fun moments while they last, because friends comes and goes, and sometimes not in a good way just like Bam's friend, Ryan Dunn.
You've convinced me. The next time my nan starts speaking about the cultural impact of Citizen Kane, I'm going to explain that Jackass has a greater intellectual and cultural significance
Dear Wisecrack, is the Half-Life game series deep or dumb?
I wrote my college senior thesis on Jackass and the dynamics of comedy and performative (non-simulated) pain as it relates to white male psychology! This was some amazing commentary! We definitely would not have the same level of USworldsr/Instagram "Savage" influencer culture today if the Jackasses had not turned on-camera personal debasement not only into a profitable brand, but an effective method of homosocial bonding. I argue that the types of behavior exhibited on this program illuminate socioeconomic tensions between the working-class young white man and the “feminized” surrounding world he unwittingly finds himself a part of, struggling (perhaps unconsciously) to both decry and maintain his sense of privilege. In short, IT'S DEEP!
Dunn didn't die in a car accident. He killed himself and a friend by drinking and driving recklessly.
Fun fact my brother's name is Preston Lacy and he's pretty much the exact opposite of the Jack ass guy
Since Johnny Knoxville was the inspiration for Travis Touchdown, I wonder just how much of the physical humor in No More Heroes is inspired by Jackass. You know, a Deep or Dumb for No More Heroes would be great, too!
The 2000s: "Terrorists hate our freedom!" The Freedom: *SteveO gag sound over bleeped expletive*
2:20 Wilhelm scream
No bam no jackass
i swear to you i went back to see the upload date because it had to be April 1st. It isn't.
Penis gags are somehow homophobic, anybody else hear that ?
Fun but dumb
A request for "Beetlejuice" deep or dumb? Philosophy of death and acceptance of your own and other's mortality. Like it guys maybe they will see it.
so fukin cringe when he is doing the * and this is wisecrack* joke, you are just showing that , you don't believe in the words you say and you are only talk
I love Jackass. I think people will likely laugh at this stuff, like you said, 100 from now or more.
Well, i have an answer for question in the title. It's stupefyingly deep, yet deeply dumb.
Brilliantly deep! Also raises the question of choice! From an existentialist point of view, if we agree that our existence don't really have any meaning, what avoids us to make all those crazy things?! Social constructs! Jackass raises the question of the power of decision by erasing the "it is not morally right, it is too dangerous, it is shamefull... " within the group of people agreeing on the overall joke. This group reflects then to us, the viewers a "control free" view or way of life! It is somehow an extreme way of letting go by the use of humour.
11:30 michael actually says dont stop filming instead of dont! stop filming! lul try again
Eating puke? Like this video.
Dirty Sanchez is better.
maybe they are just doing things they know ppl will enjoy to watch and its all content. sometimes there isnt a meaning to things its just done cause it entertaining.
It's not deep but it is hilarious
dumb
Y'all really wanted this one huh?
Now to watch Madtv jackass
The fact that you teased us with a stunt and didn't even do a pathetic one is unforgivable
I have yet to watch this video. But dumb, definitely dumb
I never care to watch Jackass back in the day but I'm glad they existed. Honestly we need a new Jackass for 2020's, everyone's too up tight, walking on egg shells, and angry all the time these days. Plus every disaster needs comedy, and as of late... where's the funny?
DUMB ASS FUCK but wildly entertaining and funny and they are SUFFERING for your entertainment so my hats off to them
Well, they did it so you didnt have to. But It Is goddamn hilarious
I have personally and un-ironically always found Jackass “deep” instead of dumb”. All the points made in this video are genuine to me, not silly or a stretch, but something real that I find joy in.
Gonna have to disagree with Jackass being homophobic. I would say Jackass is playfully homoerotic, and in hindsight to the early 2000s, very lenient and lax about males being okay with other males :)
Americans overanalyzing bulshit is a classic...
ill save you the watch its not deep its deeply dumb
@0:36 is that Gislhane Maxwell in pink?
We need more jokers like these guys to spice things up
Is jackass something Cletus from the simpsons would say is “an exercise in futility”
This definitely proved anything can be deep if you think and talk and talk about it long enough
Very deep
Its not homophobic shut the fuck up
Deep and Dumb.
Jackass taught one of the most important lessons -- If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough. When you get knocked down, you gotta get back up.
White priveledge is a part of this. Black teenagers and Asian teenagers is these times would have been treated much harsher and black specifically facing more jail time if they were to do these stunts back in the day
It's punk performance art
This all started with Bam Margera and crew with the CKY videos. Jackass was a “spinoff” or something. But you should have begun with that.
A 17 min long way to say that we are products of our environment.
I like that logic (showing penis=homophobic)
"Jackass", seriously guys? This video could have been 1 second long.
The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs commentary 2.0 :D
Here's an idea: compare 'Jackass' to the Viennese Aktionists?
Jackass was deep for me. It taught me and my friends to fail and fail hard and laugh and hug when we do then go out and fail again which you can do if you have close friends with you . “If your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough”
fact: when I saw Peter Dinklage for the first time I thought he was Wee Man
If you’re gonna be deep, you gotta be tough.
Hey you should check out Merli, a Spanish TV series about a philosophy teacher who makes high school students to love his class
1:46 Not only did the show get movies, the antics of the show also bled into another show called "The Nitro Circus" which starred Travis Pastrana's crew and Johnny Knoxville. Similar dangerous and ridiculous antics ensued as the entire crew performed stunts ranging from a mock deer hunter arcade with a crew member getting blasted by paintballs to backflipping a monster truck.
I miss when public pranks were just intended to make people laugh or just be confused...you know instead of just fucking with people and thinking it's funny.
how tf is the dick humour homophobic???
You don't have to be smart to laugh at a fart, but you have to pretty stupid not to. - Louis C.K.
We just liked watching people act like idiots whilst playing Tony Hawk and GTA, and listening to pop punk.
I used to think jackass was dumb, I still do but I used to do to
Jackass is not secretly brilliant. Jackass is obviously brilliant.
Next on Wisecrack; Dumbness: deep or nah?
ugh, just thinking about the puke omelette made me gag
Jackass was an important part of my childhood, and i think it showed me a lot of independence, sure i wasn't going to jump out of a roof, but the time with my friends, was ours to do what we wanted, even if we did get a bit hurt from time to time. By the way i appreciate how wisecrack has evolved, trying new ideas, adding to your proven formula, giving different people in your team more of a platform, it's lovely to see!
Jackass made me laugh to cry. I remember the 90s "comedy" movies and the guys hit the zeitgeist much more than any other show. Bless.
Being a bookish neurotic adolescent male in Jackass’s prime was rough. To have friends I pretty much had to accept I’d be getting tased, nut tapped, or smacked with a ladder
What? No. Dumb. Just dumb.
Yeah, I tried, but I couldn't make it past 3:22.
I wouldn't say it's deep. It's really just people who push themselves to the limits of stupid situations they can think and perform and laugh at themselves in the process while making it amusing for viewers. It's basically some of those idiotic childish ideas brought to life. And boy is it a joy to watch.
Jackass was't secretly brilliant at all- it was overt. This was a time when Americans had been inculcated and admonished over and over about conformity and the normalization of "See something, say something" in the post-911 world. The unease that some kind of socially deviant behavior used to cause wasn't just breaking boundraies about personal and public space, it was funny because people around them felt real danger, only to be almost immediately relieved with the punchline. Jackass served to lighten us the hell up week to week while we were being told by parents and conservative pundits that the world was ending and we'd better get our shit together. Consequently, the world didn't end, but the recession of 2008 pretty much confirmed what the Jackass crew had been telling us-- lighten the hell up because nothing you do really matters that much in the long run. Do your best from day to day, enjoy your life, hang out with and love your friends and find your own unique way to not only grow and survive, but find confidence in being different and stupid.
Hello Wisecrack! Long time member and subscriber. Much love and respect for what you guys do. Pretty awesome! I have a video suggestion. Can you make a video (or series) about Social Justice Warriors and how it’s changed in post modern society, how it’s influenced by the internet and anonymity, people getting easily offended (on both sides of the aisle), and cancel culture? Also, if you can do a “What went wrong? Qanon” THAT WOULD BE FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Please please please consider it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! And keep it up everyone :)
Irreverence is an important response to things getting too stuffy in a given space. You could see Jackass as a response to increasingly-high production values on TV in the late 20th century, the same way on USworlds we're seeing more irreverent people like Gus Johnson and iDubbbz gaining popularity in response to the Vine invasion and increasingly-high barrier to entry when it comes to production values (and attractiveness of the on-camera personalities).
Another philosophical viewpoint into the body humour aspect of Jack-Ass is Julia Kristeva's theory of Abjection. Admittedly this theory falls in line with body horror (think Cronenberg's "The Fly") but the vomit/faecal/urine aspects fall in line with the "cast off" side to Kristeva's theory of Abjection. It all falls to a way of establishing the boundaries between human and what is not human, and the societal boundaries we establish for ethics and morality.
So jackass was a huge part of the punk and skateboard culture of the time
Jackass is deep in retrospect cuz of how they all ended up. Knoxville, bam, steveo all different.
Deep? I think it's giving them too much credit, is on the title, they are jackasses
Public disruption was always my favorite
I’d say Jackass was the best show MTV ever made.
"Wildboyz" was arguably a better show overall.
With enough drugs anything is deep
Why is this guy doing Wisecrack videos now? He’s terrible. Bring back Jared Bauer.
Clicked vid thinking there's no way you'll convince me it's deep. Ended vid convinced beyond doubt that is indeed deep and wondering how I didn't see it before. Kudos friend.
If you want to hear about the deep undertones/backstories of Jackass, you should listen to Steve-O talk about his younger self on some of the many podcasts he has been on.
Nothing dated about their Penis related gags. Those transcend time.
I wrote an essay in a film class once arguing that jackass was, “The Ultimate Expression of Postmodern Nihilism” 😂
13:52 Major Ouch!
When I was 10 they were my inspiration
"If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough"
Jackass is deep in that it has the best redemption arc for a person in Steve O. It chronicles how the most drug addicted, alcoholic, delinquent can still turn his life around after years of mistreatment to himself and others.
Great video!
Slow death without Jared.
A bunch of rich suburban white guys getting away with doing things that would get most minorities thrown in jail? Yeah sure they were deep 🙄
As a 16 year old guy in the year 2000, Jackass holds a very special place in my heart.
Wisecrack: "Man, Jackass is such a great show. It's too bad we're a channel about philosophy and in no way, shape, or form could we do a video about them." Mike: "Hold my beer..."
