Checking out the IBM 7532 Industrial Computer, introduced in May of 1985 at $6149. Prices only went up from there, easily surpassing $10000 for a decent setup with EGA and a hard drive! It's one monster of a rackmount 286, built for use in professional environments like factories, power plants, and alongside mainframes.
And yep, this is the source of the legendary gray Industrial Model M keyboard!

14:00 oh wow I didn't know Ross Scott was gonna be in this video
impressive piece of machinery :)
I appreciate you also giving the measurements in metric units for us normal people
Playing games on this industrial computer is like playing Gameboy with the green color
The power switch has an audible clunk, newer desktops don't come close.
Atomic Edition :D
Ah woodgrain... 🤤
Filtered fans? Holy shit, my computer that I built last year doesn't even have those!
Wait what
Man, you are really, *really* enjoying your new clock. This is like, the third video I spotted it in.
Sorry if i have watched the Chernobyl series too much lately, but if i got gear that was used in any nuclear power plant for years, i would loan me a dosimeter and check it.
But was there a decent alternative for more durable? That's probably where they had you.
loud industrial machine, german CPU. :O
6:39 what my computer sounds like when I play minecraft
Love that intro
6:30 the sounds that thing is putting out!
2:08 beauti clip eh
Can you direct me to the wooden 5u case that’s awesome!
If we come up with one of these fully furnished. (Half price
I forgot people used to have keyboard covers. Really, that would be a very sanitary idea for modern office as well.
Mainframe channels (think SCSI) were the high speed disk / tape/ term cluster PU/ printer. There wasn't any LU 6 2 software with it?
Are you gonna do edutainment month this year? 🙃 (just throwing it out there: jumpstart 3rd grade).
Keyboard condom!!!! That just brought back memories of the late 90s working as a cook at Dominos Pizza. All the keyboards at the phones for call ins orders and also the keyboard on the prep line had these things! What a fun time slinging pizzas in my high school days!
When your are using your computer at 2 AM: 6:22
Those keyboard condoms used to come pre heat stressed with cracks and grease inserted under it for an extra fee. Only cheap-o workplaces didn't get the filthy crusty keyboard combo.
Time to set up a super annoying 10BASE5 network!
Hey Clint! I just had few beers and I'm binge watching your older videos (ofc commenting under newest one - not that drunk!;-)). Just wanted to say thank you for your content and work. Stay safe and healthy! Greeting from Poland - fellow 86 boomer ;-)
> Rare IBM machine > Buys the appropriate security hex bits to take it apart instead of using a Dremel > Plays Planet X3 as a demo immediately after But where are the paper clips?
They need to bring back the keyboard condom!!!
The unknown card is an IBM channel to channel adapter
What does it do?! 😐
Wood grain swagger
Looks like it would be right at home on the factory floor in the final scene of Terminator!
What a beautiful machine. I think I like this one more than my previous favourite, the Commodore PET (newer models).
OK, maybe shared first place :)
Sounds like a Tornado-In-A-Box(C) when you turn it on.
This should be standard now in all colleges
Goign by that price list, this machine seemed like a licence to print money!
that old industrial fan all i wonder is just how loud it is dose it rival a PS4 going jet or the heat it produced
What does Salem mean?
Would be wise to check the monitor for isotopic radiation. Probably just 3,6 roentgen, so no worry, but time will tell. Greetings from USSR.
That monitor is going to make you grow another arm. That's how nuclear works, right?
looks like mac pro
13:51 Was that the 8Bit Guy strategy game?
A gaming PC for traveling.
So bulky and industrial looking. I approve! Edit. And it sounds like it's about to take off! Hahaha. Awesome!
I wonder if this system could run the 1992 game The Oakflat Nuclear Power Plant Simulator from Gamtech Software.
fastforward to slots, boards, cards, thingies.. i might.. ah.. darn.. not have..
That thing is ridiculous, we had a much later model (486 I believe) at a call center I worked at, it weighed a ton.
Had to laugh when you switched on the power! 😂
"there were tonnes of available upgrades" Apple in 2021: Hahaha what's an upgrade?
Hmm, that's something new - a mechanical keyboard, with the rubber dome on top.
Wow was the loudest thing in the factory lol
I imagine a lot of these were all covered in coal dust, chemicals, among other insane industrial things in its heyday.
its from black mesa
Is that a solid aluminium fan???
Trent FTW!
6:19: ASMR heaven!
With the display turned to green it looks like a Fallout terminal to me.
Hi 1984 people. How's it hangin' ?=) all good all good.
In 1985 I thought that a computer like that was pure gold and would drool at the sight of it. Fifteen years later I would be looking for the nearest landfill to dump it into.
You know your doing alright in life when you commission someone to make you a ply box that's had a bit of wood stain on it for over $400 when you could make it harbour freight for $15
I would like to have this built quality with modern silicon please.
Its Still much quieter than my first gen Xbox 360.
16 GB RAM 7 TB HDD 4.6 GHZ 6 CORE PC 2020vs 1985
pc technology has come a long way. however, it still has long way to go till we can do full-dive into true vr. when will i get my matrix level true harem vr world? :(
I like that green monitor, I would leave it line that. And I like your new lamp
HAIL TO THE WOODGRAIN BABY!
.... wood grain handheld over at ETA Prime’s.....
Love the Red On &Off Switch LOL
In the early 80s, there's no telling how much the US GOV paid for all those WANG brand computers. SAD.
is it just me, or is DOS 3.3 the ultimate retro-computing version of DOS? it just seems like the perfect version at the perfect time. Maybe it's just because it's the oldest version that supports HD floppies.
I want a modern computer with this vintage look.
WOODEN RACK......You Legend Clint!!
Did it come with ear protectors or was that an optional extra?
That monitor is like from Fallout game, same display colour and look :)
06:23 Airplane started !
Such industry. Much green. Very Fallout. Wow.
The only reason I’m here is because on EVERY video detailing something made of wood, I keep seeing HUNDREDS of the SAME comments on every video: “Omg Clint from LGR needs this wood grain”.... why do I keep seeing this comment everywhere, who is this LGR guy, and why does he need everything wood grain???
Can you change the fan to quieter ones?
Watched it again, and maybe it's the woodgrain, but the body style reminds me of a 70s-era home computer like a trs-80.
I acquired an IBM PC AT Model 2 for £50 in 1993 from a friend at a factory that was closing down. I used it up to 1989.
Send that monitor to Adrian Black (Adrian's Digital Basement) he could fix it right up ;P
Play begin2.exe on it. Best starship simulator out there, change my mind. :)
I need a safe
6:36 And it’s whisper-quiet too!
Seeing a consumer level PC case with a 140mm fan AND a fan filter would have impressed me in 2005, never mind 1985.
does it use intel 4004/8008 processor?
The result was big, loud, and kinda ugly... and I can't help but love it! LGR
I want a keyboard condom 😁
I'd really like to see what they hooked it up to and what it did, especially in a nuclear power plant. If we knew what other applications it could be used for that would be sweet too.
Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance-wealth,a greater career, purpose is the result of hard work and hustle over time.
Holy crap. That's the biggest accumulation of bot/spam comments I've ever seen.
Believe me he's the best when it comes to crypto currency trading, you profit is assured.
I am happy for taking the bold step in working and investing $2000 with Mr Dave Javens for people to talk this good about him.
Yes I can believe that,I got victory with him, I was so sad after receiving the first payment knowing I invested so low with fear😓😓
Really y'all know him? I even thought I am the only one he has helped through the fears and fall of trading crypto currency.
高价货,2021同样。
Does LGR not do Sims reviews anymore?
Ah man, I remember the turbo button on my old XT. And that power switch. A loud "Thunk" as I recalll...
9:27 did u ask Linus kek tips?
3:24 as opposed to dirt debris and liquid you do want in your keyboard?
you should buy an office building to live in
hey i have that lamp too!
Heh, that sounds exactly like a modern rack mount server when it starts up...
LOL
Did i hear that right 🤔..... A *keyboard condom* 😅🙊🙈🙉😅
ehhh, I don't like it. the Box I mean! ... it should be stained, Gray. Grey? and the table too.... don't like it! it needs to be a mix between black and white, a nice grey. gray? and it's to bright! and uhm... lol,
