Chris Makes Meatballs | From the Home Kitchen | Bon Appétit

Join Chris Morocco back in his home kitchen as he makes weeknight meatballs. We stripped meatballs down to the most essential elements, creating a recipe that is easy enough for a postwork dinner. Making larger meatballs means they actually have time to properly brown in the oven without overcooking.
Check out the recipe here: www.bonappetit.com/recipe/weeknight-meatballs

  • Chris Morocco didn’t like that Sohla advanced so quickly, because he thought she should have more experience in the test kitchen, before she started developing recipes, which is true throughout all kitchens and workplaces in general. The fact that they were looking to “hire a black person” and “making sure there wasn’t another Sohla problem” are not directly correspondent. They could’ve hired another white person and he still would’ve said that.

  • BA pay/treat your minority employees fairly and equal to your white employees, quit being trash. I don't want to see a video unless it shows you resolving this. This includes promoting them to actual presenter positions.

  • About five months into the job, she says, management wanted to create a more junior position underneath her to do the cross-testing she had originally been hired for. “They really wanted to hire someone Black, which I know you’re not allowed to say legally, out loud,” she says. “And Chris Morocco [the director of the ] directly told me he didn’t like how quickly I moved up, so he wanted to make sure this person would never be allowed to develop recipes.” As she puts it, management didn’t want another “Sohla problem.” - Per 'Going Sohla', Vulture

  • I understand reasons why those who stayed (due to needing a job and needing it to take care of their needs) HOWEVER IM SO UPSET, DISAPPOINTED, SAD, and MAD that they’re sweeping it under the rug, not addressing it the way it needs to be. Hunzi, Sohla, and Gabi along with everyone else deserves so much better. and them not showing how they’re changing and implementing things to make the workplace to make it more equal if not having equity. it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth and for that i can no longer enjoy the videos or support BA

  • How can anyone manage without blender parm is his most passionate concern of THIS video? Was there a BA/Conde Nast video about reintroducing the channel that I missed? I think people will take this video and Hunzi it up with inserted snark comments and images because that would add perspective to his business-as-almost-usual return to videos.

He’s uncomfortable, he’s awkward, he’s deflecting, he’s overall unpleasant ... all the rambling and complaining and mistakes give me an off vibe. If I didn’t know who he is, I would have never taken him for a professional in both the kitchen and the platform. Does he even know how to make meatballs?
