  • I can imagine seeing Jay Leno rolling up next to me at the light, then responding to my gawking with "It's my son's car." Sure it is! I think I like just Jay by himself; it feels more like going over to your buddy's garage, then going for a spin! Beautiful car even with its ski slope of a nose, keep 'em coming, Mr. Leno!

  • Jay the fastest Trans Am was the 1973 and 1974 SD 455, it was rated 360 hp but dynoed over 500. I myself have had it up to 165 mph with more to go. My son has the 2002 ram air WS6 Trans Am in red and tan leather. It's fast but no comparison to the SD.

  • Good to see ya Jay, great car ! .. Does it still smell like a New car (bet it does) ..the one thing that i truly love about a New car is that smell ....here in Michigan a car lasts about 1 winter with all the salt they use ...

    Jay DawgJay DawgHour ago
  • I'm sorry, but the last good-looking Firebird was 1973. What would be nice, is to have a 1970-73 body, with this car's engine and suspension.

  • I Don't think WS6 stands for Wide 6 parts 😀.It is an option code like Z28.

  • Holy sh.t please Excuse me while I go rub one out..... this was the car I worked my tail off from being 16 till about 20 until I finally owned one. Really wanted the firehawk but alittle out of reach. After having it for about 2 months and older lady that possibly shouldn’t of hand a license pulled out in front of me. Instead of hitting the car I dodged her but it a pole and that was the end of my ws6.. 🥲🥲🥲

  • The last hurrah for GM, until the new gen Camaro in 2007. Too bad they axed Pontiac, would’ve been nice to seen the new Firebird. Still it’s a nice car, but so are all of Jay’s cars.

  • i have a great memory of that car. i was working at toyota back in 2004 as a porter and the lot was getting flooded from a storm and a ws6 was sitting in the middle of it and my boss throws me the keys and says "move it and see what its got" now most would die for that chance but i was 16 with my first real job and never drove stick before but everything went smooth but that car is what started my love for power

  • 14:42 Ya those turn signal switches were horrible. I often complained about them. They broke too. You know who started putting in Quality Levers on the steer column? HONDA! Go back to the 89 Honda Accord. All their levers (wiper and turn) worked smoothly and easily. If you open an electronics book, they sell all sorts of buttons and switches. So, depending on what the Manufacturer specified, they could easily install nice parts or junk parts. Also, the WS6 is just an RPO code.. GM does the same random badging with the Z71 Truck.. It means nothing.. LT1 , LS1, LS7, All RPO codes. They mean nothing other than what comes on the vehicle.

  • I enjoyed this piece, Jay. I always thought you were the biggest Southy, bonebrain, joke thief on the planet, and didn't deserve to be pretending to be witty on TV, but I like the way you relate to cars, especially these genuine American gems. Kudos. Liked the Klan breakfast joke, though. You think that one up yourself?

    HeimlichManeuverHeimlichManeuver22 hours ago
  • I bought a new Mustang that year. The Firebirds were selling deeply discounted. It wasn't til a year later I realized how mechanically it was a true gem. Just like the GTO with a 6.0 Corvette engine, by the time I could afford it, they stop making them. Nowadays its hard to buy a coupe in a world of SUVs and personal pickups everywhere.

  • You're a luck man Jay. I am a life-long Firebird fan, and when it was announced that the Firebird (and Camaro) was being discontinued, I thought long and hard about buying one. When I looked at the numbers of income versus what one would cost me, I decided to play it smart and be content with my decade old Grand Am. Mine would have probably been a blue Formula, with cloth interior, and WS6 with the six speed... quite a bit like the one Pontiac gifted you with… you lucky bum! Thanks for this video. BTW, incase you care: WS6 was just an RPO code which originally had no real meaning; The RPO WS6 was used for many years on the Firebird and denoted an upgraded suspension, but when the RPO was brought back for the 1997 model year it was an option package which had larger sway bars, larger wheels, and the SLP ‘Ram Air’ induction hood. Mechanically they were exactly the same as non-WS6 cars, only the cold air induction was different - and that was the reason behind the nominal horsepower increase.

  • Formula LT1. Pontiac, the performance backbone of GM. Some lucky enough were given a 365rwp Corvette eater. GM used to allow blueprinted motors to slip out once in a while. The dual-ram air on the WS6 was the top of the line. Only by price. Like a Trans-Am. No more secrets from GM, after these. Jay doesn’t know about them. Shame. We challenged our Formula against an upgraded OTC WS6 parts built car owned by a customer and he couldn’t compete. I wish I knew where that car was. I believe it would’ve competed with my 392 SRT8 Challenger.

I owned like 7 or 8 camaros, firebirds, transame z28 but the culmination, when i finished school and became an engineer in the semiconductor industry, was my 1996 WS6 custom black and silver Trans Am. I had it for over 10 years, until it was totaled, i missed and longed for that car much more than i did my wife i had divorced a few months earlier.

  • I can see no peace and joy in Jay's eyes when he does the show's and bringing his followers into a spirit of idolizing car's which makes since because the Bible says we get our peace and joy from the Holy Spirit and it also warns us not to be greedy and the love of money is the root of all evil ! I mean there's nothing wrong with having nice things but when you eat , sleep , and talk 24 hours a day 7 days a week all your life about car's or anything else for that matter , you might want to do like the Bible says and give your life to Jesus before you leave planet earth because judgment might be pretty harsh for a lover and idolizer of some car's that he's not taking in the grave with him right ? The Holy Bible says worship the Creator ( GOD) more than the creation ( us and our pitiful little things we make )were so fast to lust on things of this world and not our creator (GOD) right ?

  • This car / engine set up was originally going to be a 5.6 liter. The way the engine set up was a double V. Aka “W” and the 5.6 liter engine. Little known fact is that the rear doesn’t say WS6. It says “W5.6”. But when we released it , we ended going with the 5.7 liter instead. You can still see the dot between the numbers. This is why Jay doesn’t know what WS stands for either. Bcuz it doesn’t exist. It’s a W and a 5. Just another tip from uncle human.
