Sneaking on magma is intended because in Minecraft PE sometimes the tip when loading a world says “sneak on magma so you don’t take any damage”
5:09 One of the tips on the loading screens actually say you can do this or get frostwalker on your boots, and you can use them to breath underwater

the magma thing has been around for quite a while so its not a bug its a feature
The reason I think you don't take damage on a magma block when crouching is that you are more careful with your steps
